The one and only rule: Bet somebody $50 you can catch one, and you'll find a way.
We were having problems at our farm with armadillos digging up the inside of our barn. Dad said he would give me $50 if I could catch it.
I did a lot of research on the web. The two that I picked up on was information on beaver snares and to "corral" the animal to a live trap. And I tried both of them.
Dad already had the live trap and the lumber. The tricky part is figuring out where they come in at and where to put the corral. The fence in the picture below is barbed-wire with sheep fence in front of it (helps keep calves in our out), and there was armadillo signs on both side of the fence. Evidently the critter was climbing through the pipe gate. I set up some 2x10's to act as a chute that led to the live trap. Research on the web said that armadillos aren't particularly keen and will follow along a barrier until past it.
The beaver snare idea didn't work out as well. Directly under the water tub (pictured) is real nice excavation project that was under taken by one of the critters. I screwed on end of the snare into the post so it couldn't be dragged off. The other end was placed at the entrance of the hole. The snare was moved a few times but rendered no fare. It is still set up, but the live trap has yielded the $100 so far.
